The Louisiana government created a new website that allows people to compare healcare services and healh plans in Louisiana. I found out about this via an article on the Houma Today website. The website is www.healthfinderla.gov.
Over the years I’ve heard people complain about charity hospitals. In partifular I’ve heard many complain about Chabert (Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center). Surprisingly I’ve heard quite a big of negative comments about Terrebonne General Medical Center. I say surprised because Phyllis Peoples and her cronies stay on the ball when it comes to sweeping things under the rug and spewing out BS PR to the public,
Enough with my personal feelings towards Phylis Peoples, Terrebonne General Medical Center, et al. Let’s look at some more facts about the establishment and it’s track record.
First, there are three options to search: Hospitals, Nursing Homes, and Health Plans (see Figure 1.1)

Figure 1.1
I clicked on “Hospitals.” You then select the city you want to view. I chose Houma. Three hospitals came up:
-
Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center
-
Physicians Medical Center
-
Terrebonne General Medical Center
Next to each listing was a plus sign (see Figure 1.2).

Figure 1.2
You click the plus sign to add to your list. I added Terrebonne General Medical Center and Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center and then clicked “Compare Hospitals.”
The hospitals are rated upon the following “Conditions” as the website calls them.
- Characteristics
- Heart Attack Care
- Heart Failure Care
- Pneumonia Care
- Surgical Care
- Patient Experience
- Patient Survival
- Hospital Readmissions
- Patient Safety
First is Characteristics. There are three criteria that are looked at:
- Accreditation
- Emergency Service
- Hospital Type
Both facilities got a “Yes” on the first two. For the last criteria they both are listed as acute care facilities. I have a diagram that shows the results of each of the additional conditions.
| Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center | Terrebonne General Medical Center | |
| Heart Attack Care | 95% | 97% |
| Heart Failure Care | 97% | 90% |
| Pneumonia Care | 94% | 89% |
| Surgical Care | 97% | 82% |
| Patient Experience | 76% | 62% |
| Patient Survival | No different than
U.S. National Rate |
No different than
U.S. National Rate |
| Hospital Readmission | No different than
U.S. National Rate or Number of Cases Too Small |
No different than
U.S. National Rate |
Chabert’s average was 91.2% and the average of Terrebonne General Medical Center was 84%. What’s amazing is Chabert is not a for-profit hospital like Terrebonne General Medical Center is. In addition, Chatbert’s is run off of State funds.
Even with all of the money and pull TGMC can’t even keep their head above the 90% water line.
